HEALTH SCREENING FAIR

If you were at school on Wednesday you would have noticed alot of people who are not normally at Wilder were walking through the halls. Students from Cox School of Nursing, Speech Pathology Students, and MSU students plus added nurses from the district came to help screen students in K-1-3-5. We screen vision, hearing, height and weight and dental. Thank you to Holly Sorenson and Lisa Hallam, PTA coordinators. I always appreciate their help.
If your child is in one of these grades results will be sent home soon. I will be doing rechecks for several weeks.
The children really enjoy this event.

NO PETS ALLOWED

Due to a high volume of pet allergies please do not bring pets of any kind to school for Show and Tell. Thanks.
SNACKS TO SCHOOL

R-12 policy requires all snacks coming to school need to be commercially prepared. Please when bringing snacks to school do not bring homemade items to the classroom. The reason for this is commerically prepared items are under inspection of the state. This is for your protection as well as children's health.

Dear Parents,

The school year of 08-09 is getting started and there is information that you need to be aware of to save time and effort in the future. It is always great to see your children begin their educational journey and watch their progress over the years.

On Sept. 24th we will have our annual health screening for K, 1,3and 5. At that time we need volunteers for 2 hour time increments or all day (9AM-2PM).
If you can volunteer please call me @ 523-5330.

The information in this letter is VERY IMPORTANT so please read carefully and retain forms for further use. The information is covered in the District Handbook.

Thank you for filling out the 2 yellow cards one for the nurse and one for the office. . I know this is a chore but those cards are used on a daily basis. If you have not returned these please do so ASAP.

If your child is absent please call the school office (523-5300) before 8:30 to report the reason for the absence. When calling please state your student’s name, classroom and reason for absence. If you are going out of town please notify the office before your departure.

Attached is a medication permit for 2008-2009 please file this to use in the future if medication is needed at school... This form must accompany any medication brought to school (cough drops; Tums, etc are considered medication too.) MEDICATION MUST BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL BY THE PARENTS. Please read medication policy in the district handbook. MEDICATION MUST COME IN THE ORIGINAL CONTAINER. If your child has to take prescription medication at school, have the pharmacy label another bottle for school use. Pick up a doctor’s order form from my office if your child is on prescription medication.

Over the counter medications may only be given 3 times without a doctor’s order. If you anticipate your child to need cough medication, or something for headache or orthodontic work ask the doctor to write an order for the school. Cough drops should not be sent to school. If they are sent a med permit needs to signed. All medication is kept in the med cabinet in my office. A bottle of water actually works better than cough drops.

YOUR CHILD SHOULD NOT ATTEND SCHOOL AND WILL BE SENT HOME IF HE OR SHE HAS ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS;
A temperature over 100 degrees *.
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
Redness of the eyes, a rash or swollen glands
Head lice
* A CHILD WHO IS SENT HOME WITH A FEVER MUST REMAIN AT
HOME UNTIL FEVER FREE FOR 24 HOURS WITHOUT
MEDICATION.

Some contagious diseases require treatment for a certain number of days before returning to school and these will be evaluated on an individual basis. I realize for some of you missing work is a real problem. I find that you will miss less work if you keep your child home long enough to be completely well. This helps control the spread of the problem and the reoccurrence.

If during the school year a problem arises please feel free to call me and set up a conference. We need to meet both the physical and emotional needs of your child together.

Sometimes financial services are available and I can assist you in getting care for a specific need. Please call me.

I know these are a lot of rules to follow but if handled in a proper manner your child’s health need s will be met. Health and safety needs of your child are very important to us. We want your child to be the best that they can be. Good health assures a good start in that direction.

Sincerely,

Sharon Peacock BSN, RN, NCSN

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I want to say a very belated thank you to all who left gifts on my desk on the last day of school. As some of you know I had to miss the last day of school due to a family emergency. When I came into my office I was surprised with all the goodies but the cards and goodies were separated. So to all who gave me a gift or a card it was truly appreciated. You all are so thoughtful.
